Mamavation Monday
By Laurie | April 19, 2010
As I mentioned a few posts ago, I have been doing the Fat Smash Diet with one of my co-workers. Dave has also been supporting me and following the guidelines at dinnertime. For the first 9 days (I am on Day 8 today) you are required to do a fruit/veggie detox. No meat, no bread, no sugar, no nothing. Surprisingly it has not been as difficult as I would have thought. I have been loving all the variety, and have actually reintroduced myself to some very tasty favorite foods- kiwis and grapefruits. Oh, and Cuties. I just looove Cuties.
Since my detox has been fruits and veggies only for the most part (and the occasional veggie burger), I have had no problem with the Mamavation #fruitnveggie challenge since that’s all I’m eating anyway. Getting in 64 oz. of water has also always been hard for me, but I’ve been doing it… and running to the bathroom on a constant basis.

In addition, I’ve committed to using my Wii Fit and/or EA Sports Active for 40 minutes 5 days each week. I love the Advanced Step (so fun!), but I have been doing the one where you can step while watching TV. I have found that the time goes by so much faster when my mind is occupied with America’s Next Top Model, Vampire Diaries, or Top Chef. I have also been using Riiflex Wii dumbells and they are awesome. Get some. Seriously. They are only $29.99, and add a lot to your workout. |
If you’ve known me or followed me for awhile you’ve probably read my bitching about my struggles with PCOS and Hyperthyroidism. It seems to be really easy for me to gain weight, but nearly impossible for me to lose it. I have been working hard, and haven’t seen a whole lot of changes. BUT I am truly dedicated this time and am following this diet to the letter. I did show a tiny loss though, and no matter what I am going to keep pushing through.
| In addition to fruits and veggies, I am also allowed to have a limited amount of egg whites each day. I went out early last week and bought All Whites Eggs. I thought that would be a lot easier than having to separate them from the yolks myself. Plus I hate egg yolk, so this was the perfect solution. I sauteed bell peppers and mushrooms and scrambled the egg whites for a yummy protein packed breakfast. See? Photographic evidence! I even have a small glass of grapefruit juice to keep things interesting. | ![]() |
I am hoping that I will be able to join the Mamavation Sistahood (I know, I know… I’m not a mom) because I want to have the extra support and accountability. It will give me the motivation to make an honest post about my progress every Monday that will hopefully help me and others who are going through a similar plan or change. I will of course support the other members and celebrate their accomplishments too.
What are you doing this week or what tips do you have that I can take into my second week?

Woohoo!! Congrats on taking this first VERY AWESOME and IMPORTANT step – so excited for you
I have cartons of All Whites that I live on each week (my diet is very high protein right now) — and they are so convenient, yummy and you can really make a lot with them. I eat them every morning.
Great job getting active with the Wii too — that’s so wonderful Laurie
YOU WILL see changes soon…you have to give it a little time and try to eat a little more veggies than fruit bc fruit is very high in sugars and carbs…but WOW you’re doing it!!! xo
Posted by: mamajossHi Laurie! Great job under tough restrictions! Sounds like you are doing fabulous. You would be a great asset to the sistahood, babies or no! We’ll just consider your chihuahua your baby! Did you lose weight last week? It sucks about the PCOS and thyroid issue. I have friends who have that and I understand it’s a big struggle. Good luck this week, you’re on a roll!
Posted by: PaigeHi there and good luck with all that you are working with. On twitter I don’t know if you follow @donielle but she has an interesting site dedicated to food and her fertility issues.
Posted by: kiaIt looks like you are on your way. Good luck with your meal plans. I look forward to watching your progress.
Posted by: JustTracyB.comGood for you for having the extra stick-with-it-ness this time around! Attitude makes the biggest difference in the WORLD!! You can exercise like crazy and eat right, but if you’re angry and grumpy you won’t see that weight come off… Just my experience anyway. Looking forward to getting to know you more through Mamavation!

MamaJoss- thank you! I have been taking your advice about the fruit also and cut back a little bit and have been having more veggies. We’ll see!
Posted by: LauriePaige- I did lose a little bit the first week, but it was quite a bit bigger when I actually stepped on the scale Monday night. I will share next week. Thanks for coming by and encouraging me.
