Wanchai Ferry Orange Chicken Review & Giveaway
By Laurie | September 8, 2009
Dave loves Chinese food. I am not a big fan, and am really particular about what I like. I was a little hesitant when offered by MyBlogSpark to try Wanchai Ferry’s Orange Chicken frozen entrée, but I decided to go for it. They sent a really cute little “Stay At Home” gift set that included bowls, place mats, chopsticks, and a coupon for an additional entree for two. Want to win your own? Read on!

The package said it was a complete meal for two, and takes 14 minutes to make. I couldn’t believe anything good could be that quick and easy, and Dave was skeptical that any kind of frozen Chinese food from the grocery store could be good. We were both pleasantly surprised!

All I had to do was pour a little oil in my new Le Creuset skillet, and brown the chicken for 3-4 minutes. After I removed them, I poured the veggies, orange sauce, and a little water into the skillet to boil. After a few more minutes, I put the chicken back into the mixture. While that was cooking, I popped the rice into the microwave for 2 minutes, and that was it. Voila! Meal for two, in less than 15 minutes. Seriously.

The real test was how it tasted though, and it was actually good! We both agreed that the chicken was the best “homemade” (i.e. not from a restaurant) breaded chicken we had ever had. The sauce was also pretty tasty, and I was surprised at how good the rice was after only being cooked in the microwave for 2 minutes. While Dave didn’t eat the veggies, it was easy to separate them from his portion.

This was simple to do, and is perfect for a quick dinner after work. Cleanup was easy too. I’ve had frozen Chinese meals made for the microwave, and they are never good. This was definitely worth the extra few minutes of “cooking” that it took. They come in four other flavors including Shrimp Lo Mein, Spicy Garlic Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Sweet & Spicy Shrimp. Additionally, all of the entrees have no added MSG! I can’t wait to try another flavor.

Do you want to give it a try and win your own gift set like mine?
Simply answer one of these questions in the comments (required):

Posted by: ky2hereWe have the quirky habit of putting the words “in bed” at the end of our fortunes. I got a fortune cookie once that read “You will be surrounded by many who love you”, we added “in bed” and got a laugh out of it. I was not laughing that night when we had a brutal thunderstorm and had all three kids, two dogs and two cats in my tiny king size bed.

Posted by: checkersI don’t remember exactly what the fortune said, but I remember it was very accurate.
For my farewell lunch my co-workers sent out for chinese food. They chose my meal since I said I “didn’t like” chinese and they thought I’d like Gen Tso.
They were SO RIGHT! I’m addicted to it now.
Anyway, my fortune said that I’d prosper where I was going or something to that effect. Well, it was so right. I was worried about changing jobs, but I’ve been at this “new” job for 8 yrs and love it still.
