Attention K-Mart Shoppers!

By Laurie | July 23, 2009

I don’t know if everyone knows this, but I grew up in California. There are a few things and places I vividly remember and that bring back memories. In-N-Out is one of them, as is Safeway, and Disneyland.

Kmart Bluelight Specials are another. My grandma and parents used to take us there shopping when I was kid, and I remember raiding the toy section. I always thought the Bluelight Specials were the coolest idea. I don’t know if K-Mart was a nationwide thing back in those days, but they would have special sales that were announced over the speaker system. They aren’t just called Bluelight Specials for nothing. There is an actual blue light rolled out into that location of the store. It was so fun to watch people run for the location of the sale in different departments looking for the light. I always looked forward to our visits, and I can’t really think of a more memorable or unique way to have a special in-store event like that on a regular basis.

Why am I telling you this? Well, K-Mart is bringing back the Bluelight Special on Saturday, July 25. There will be over 40 specials through the day in-store including patio furniture, grills, jewelry AND other great offers will also be at kmart.com ONLY on that day. I love their home collections and hope some of those will be on sale for the lucky ones who get to attend. Sadly the location in Texas that was closeby my parent’s house closed quite a few years back. If we are in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving we often go by there to shop though, and I miss it for the memories it brings back.

  1. I was born in California, but then we moved to Illinois. We had those Kmart Bluelight Specials there, too. They definitely bring back memories!

  2. Those Bluelight Specials were such a fun idea. I wonder why they stopped doing them in the first place!
