LC in the Big D
By Laurie | July 11, 2009
I am behind on posting, so I am going to try to catch up. Late last month I twisted Nikki’s arm into going to see Lauren Conrad at her book signing for L.A. Candy. I have been watching The Hills since it started, and watched Laguna Beach before that. I know that it’s a train wreck, and who isn’t tired of Spiedi? Still, LC just finished her final episode and I have to say that I like her despite the other people on the show who make it less bearable to watch. And yes, I know it is all mostly fake and manufactured.
That leads me to her book, L.A. Candy, the first of three young adult novels she is writing.

Shakespeare or Jane Austin this ain’t. Heck, it isn’t even on-par with Stephenie Meyer, and I know you guys know how I feel about her writing style. I read somewhere else that this book is a decent beach read. Since there’s not a beach in the general proximity of Dallas, for me it’s been a toilet read. Come on, you all read in there. Admit it! Appropriately enough though, this book fits right in. It’s crap.
It does give fans an inside peek into what it may be like for “reality” stars who are acting out scenes at the whim of their producers or directors. Still, most of the characters are blah and boring. Others are annoying and stereotypical clones of characters from the shows. At least that’s my opinion. I am sure a hundred teenage girls will come on here and defend it, and that’s cool. I get it. I always crack up at the angry comments on my Twilight posts too. I usually don’t approve them, but I guarantee you I get a good laugh. You might wonder why I am reading this when it is a book for young adults. Unlike Twilight, if I had a pre-teen (or even teen) daughter, I wouldn’t let her read it. Most of the characters. including the heroine, drink though they are underage (and I know most college kids under 21 do too). Others are having sex and one-night-stands. These aren’t exactly the best behaviors to be glamorizing to young girls. Much more adult fare, don’t you agree?

At any rate, Lauren seemed sweet. She was very very skinny, and very very tan. I was actually taken aback by how tiny she is in person, and told her so. Of course her entourage (or the Borders handlers) wouldn’t let anyone pose for a photo with her. I assume that was to keep the line moving. There were over 600 screaming fans waiting in line. Luckily we were near the front, though we almost got trampled when she came out and had to walk by us to get to the table where she would be signing the books.

I did manage to get a few good closeups of her, but those had to be taken from behind a rope at least ten feet from the table where she was signing. Unfortunately her book ended in a cliffhanger. Will I buy the two sequels? Perhaps I might check them out at the library. She is coming out with a LC clothing line at Khol’s in October, and I’m dying to see what that looks like too. Being that she is a stick figure, I won’t hold out hope for any items that might work for my figure.
I also created a story on Whrrl the next day if you haven’t already seen it. Enjoy!
