Not all Skeeters bite!

By Laurie | April 3, 2009

Today wasn’t just my usual day of sulking being productive around the house. Oh no! I went on an adventure. I live in North Texas. While I’d say I know my way around, I typically stay in a 30 mile radius of our house. I have been to Mesquite a handful of times. I know it is the home of the rodeo, though I haven’t been since I was about ten or eleven.

Anyhow, Mesquite was my destination of the day. Specifically I traveled to the Razzoo’s to meet up with Skeeterbess, Skeet, or Anita… depending on how you know her. I know her virtually (i.e. online) in all three ways. From her blog, Skeet’s Stuff, as a fellow “Postie” and message board dweller, and as a supporter/donor of my Breast Cancer 3-Day walk last year. She has always been one of my favorites because of her kind heart, adventurous spirit, and amazing way with words. I am glad that I can now say we really know each other!

She just recently moved back to Texas after living in Hawaii for many years. Can you imagine packing up your whole life in paradise and moving across the ocean before your house even sells? I am neither that independent, nor brave. I admire her. I could seriously talk to her for hours. You know how sometimes when you meet new people it can be strange and awkward? We definitely carried on like old friends from the beginning.

I brought along my XShot, and we each used it to take a picture of ourselves together at the table. (Did you notice her SS t-shirt?!) This is the first time I had the opportunity to use the XShot in public, and it was so nice to not have to bother someone else to take a photo for us! I originally wanted to have it for SXSW, but it did not make it in time. It is going to be great for the rest of the conferences I attend this year though, and I cannot wait to give it another good workout. Even the waiter looked intrigued by our camera-on-a-stick! Want one? You can get $3 off and free shipping if you order by tomorrow using the code MM09. I would definitely recommend it.

After lunch, we ventured up the road a bit and found a shopping center to poke around in. I made a mental wish list of more things I want, but do not need. Isn’t that always the way? Skeet was sneaky and bought me a little dragonfly ornament so that I would always remember our first meeting. I hung it on my rear view mirror for the ride home.

After that, we went our separate ways. I had a good day, and it went by really quickly. I dropped by D’s office on the way home to say hello and bring him a Starbuck’s tea, and he joined me at home not long after. See what happens when I get out of the house and find things to do?

  3. I hadn’t realized that Skeet is now stateside. Will she be attending IZEAFest. I really want to meet her too. I have to say also that I love Razzoos, when I was in my traveling heyday I hit up one of those, I went back and found my post about it, the fired pickles were my favorite. I was in TX too. Looking back two days prior to the photo a day at Razzoo’s I see I was in Richardson TX. Here’s my Razzoo’s post if you are interested http://www.benspark.com/photo-a-day-286-011906.html.

  4. Drew- Of course I asked her that too! I know so many people would be thrilled for her to be there. I think it will depend on what is going on for her in October.
