DFW Bloggers Dinner
By Laurie | March 1, 2009
Last night was the DFW Bloggers Dinner. I was nervous. I am not a terribly social person, and I kind of fade to the background in large groups. I think you really get a chance to see my true personality if you hang out with me one on one or in a smaller group. When Elaine (one of the hostesses) invited me, I decided it was time for me to break outside of my comfort zone. I was excited because it was a bloggers event, and I really don’t know too many people who blog locally. Plus I knew there would be lots of fun things to talk about.
I mentioned before that I invited Jean who I had just met thanks to a holiday blog swap, so we met up for the first time at the local Chick-Fil-A and rode over to the Galleria together. I was glad to have a partner-in-crime, and she was nice enough to trust a complete stranger and hop in my car. She’s a brave woman!
| We got to the mall about an hour early, so we walked around a few stores to kill a little time. We didn’t see anyone else milling around the restaurant, so we figured we were probably the first ones there. I spotted the Hello Kitty crew at Macy’s and insisted we stop. You see, I am a huge HK fan. I have been dying to get my hands on a MAC Hello Kitty purse mirror that sold out before I was able to get one. It’s not exactly something that you can allow to be a priority when you’re unemployed, even if you are a fashionista. Am I right? Hopefully someone will convince me otherwise, because I really still want one. At any rate, we had our picture taken with half naked male models with huge Hello Kitty masks (and plastic streamers?) Meow! You can even see the nippage in the photo! Did I just say nippage? Hmm… I guess I did. It’s a word, people. I looked it up, and it’s legit if Urban Dictionary has it, right? Right! Wow. I have really derailed this post. Back to the dinner… | ![]() |

We arrived back at the restaurant, the Grand Lux Cafe, which we discovered is an upscale version of the Cheesecake Factory. We decided to go for some liquid courage at the bar while trying to play spy and guess who looked like a blogger and who was just there for dinner. Luckily after we got our $12.00 (!!!!) Sangrias, we were feeling a little braver and glad that Elaine spotted us. We mingled with some of the other bloggers and after a long wait we were seated in the dinning room for dinner. |
| I was thinking there would be a lot of mom bloggers, and I know I’m in the minority of woman in their 30s who are not a mom yet (even though they want to be). I was glad to be seated with a nice mix of bloggers, some moms and some not, and even a few guys! Everyone was super friendly and we chatted about our blogs, our lives, books, and whatever else came up. I didn’t take any pictures of everyone at our table, and I wish that I had. I did get a shot of all of the food that Jean and I shared though. | ![]() |
Since the wait was so long, we all got to share a free appetizer. It was some kind of “fly by chicken” (™ Eddie) and cheese wanton with Wasabi. One of the other girls at the table took my picture while I tried it. It was pretty good. We decided on the patty melt and fries for dinner (click for picture), but didn’t eat much of it and ordered the raspberry cheesecake for desert instead. YUM!

Elaine and Holly had the cutest little hand made place cards for everyone who attended. How adorable and creative! I must say it also made it easy for us to exchange blog information with one another too. Here are the links to the other bloggers I met at our table: Colleen, Eddie, Bianca, Jes, and Jenny. You can find pictures of all of us on some of the other blogs since I didn’t get any. |
I wish that I had gotten a chance to meet more of the bloggers who attended, and I hope that we all do this again soon. It was a lot of fun, and I definitely appreciate all of the hard work it took to organize it.
