What I’ve Been Up To
By Laurie | February 27, 2009
I’ve been missing in bloggy action for the past few days. Have you missed me? Yeah, I didn’t think so. I’ve had stuff to say, but my routine was kind of thrown off. So what have I been up to?
On Wednesday and Thursday D stayed home sick, so I slept in. The work search became a little bit more relaxed. I’m keeping strange hours– staying up until 3:00 AM and getting up at 10:00 or 11:00 AM. Bad Laurie! I did receive a call from the company that I interviewed with last week, and they asked me back for a second interview with the operations manager. I went to that today, and I think it went pretty well. I really like the person who I would report to, and the manager seemed really nice and very passionate about the company. That kind of thing is contagious. I think it is great to work for people who love their job and company. I think it will be a good fit if they select me. I should know something one way or the other next week.
Last night I went with my friend Nikki and her friend to a fashion show called The Pin Show at Union Station in Downtown Dallas. It was pretty interesting and was my first time to attend one in person. I guess ANTM and Project Runway doesn’t really count now does it? Didn’t think so.

Other than being the biggest girl in the room (okay, maybe I am exaggerating) I enjoyed seeing what kind of things our local fashion scene is creating. There were some gorgeous gowns toward the end of the show. I didn’t get any pictures of those, though. We had standing room tickets, so it was hard to see and get good pictures. Even my most comfortable heels turned out to be a huge mistake, and by the end of the night I thought my feet were dangerously close to falling off. Ah well. I survived. I’m over dramatic. |
We also really enjoyed HOD (a.k.a the House of Dang). They had a pair of tighty greenies (ha!) with the word DANG! printed on them in the store. Does your man need them? They’ll set you back $18. Too bad they’re not available online. See Nikki’s photo from her camera phone above.
| Tomorrow night I am attending a DFW Bloggers Dinner hosted by Elaine from The Miss Elaine-ous Life (isn’t that cute?!) and several of her other local blogging friends. It sounds like they are going to have a really good turnout, and it is going to be lots of fun. I am also excited because I was matched with Jean for the Valentine Swap at An Island Life, and it turns out that she lives in the city right next to mine. We’ve been chatting back and forth via e-mail, and I thought she might enjoy meeting up with everyone since she is new to the area. I was also realllly branching out by going on my own, so I am grateful that she agreed to come along for the fun. | ![]() |
That’s all for now. I’m sure I’ll be back in the next couple of days with a new post. I hope you all have a great weekend.

Is is sad to say that I didn’t sleep well last night (like it was Christmas Eve) and I actually practiced random conversations in my head just in case there’s that akward silence. I know you won’t let that happen though.
Can you tell I don’t get out much?

Posted by: ShaunaI like the DANG! undies. That’s what people say when they see my booty. Why not verify it with appropriate drawers?
Posted by: AkirahOh the bloggers dinner sounds like SO much fun! I’ve heard of other blogger “get-togethers” but I’ve never been to one. Have fun, and good luck with the job hunt!

Posted by: CaroleYo Laurie! It’s me, Eddie, thanks for dropping me a note, I would have responded sooner but I was sidetracked by, no, not a flying chicken, not this time, this time it was a drive by cow. One of those ones from Chick-Fli-A and it was holding a sign that said, “Eat Mor Chikin”, but I was in the mood for beef! It’s what’s for dinner.
I’ll pop back by and see what is happening with you on the job front. I hope you get that one you interviewed for, it sounds like a nice option. I’ve been using Monster to apply for positions that I’m not qualified for, but sound fun. I mean, why not?
Well, it was nice meeting you! I need to find some caffeine because I am sleepy. I too have been staying up late since I got laid off. It’s fun, it’s like college all over again!

Posted by: KarenThanks Elaine! I had a great time and it was so nice to meet you. I must say that you are just adorable in person, and I was very impressed with your mingling skills and the fact that you seemed to remember everyone’s name. What a fun night!
Posted by: LaurieGlad you enjoyed the undies Akirah. I might have to make a new post if they offer a version for women at some point.
Posted by: LaurieCarole- it was so much fun to meet up with a big group of local bloggers like that. Thank you so much for the well wishes also. I think everything on the job front will work out how it is suppose to.
Posted by: LaurieEddie- OMG you are so funny. I hope you do come back and leave me more comments. Also, if you need a buddy to meet up for daytime caffeine and unemployment talk, I’m your girl.
Posted by: LaurieIt was great to meet you too, Jenny! Keep a lookout on their website. I would think they would offer some up for sale. I really wanted to buy a pair too, but $18 is kind of steep now that I am watching my money a little more closely. Besides, I really don’t think my hubby would wear them!
Posted by: LaurieThank-you, Grace. I appreciate that. I think when the right thing comes along, I will know. Until then, I am not stressing and just taking things one day at a time.
Posted by: LaurieWe had a blast, Karen! I should have thought to invite Lynne. Do you think she would have come?
