Ice Storm 2009
By Laurie | January 28, 2009
We had our first official ice storm of 2009. For those of you in colder parts of the country, I apologize. The world comes to an end here when we get a little ice, sleet, or snow. Yesterday people even called out from work and the roads were not even icy or bad.
Today was a different story. All of the local schools closed and most businesses had delayed openings. My plan was to head out around 10:00 AM after the ice had a chance to melt. I think it was 20 degrees when we woke up around 6:00 AM. I called my boss when I was ready to leave, and she told me to just stay home and not risk it. I didn’t argue, too much.
I probably could have made it. I like to go early when a lot of other people aren’t on the road. Our house is kind of in a more rural area, and we have to go down a narrow two lane road for a mile or so before we hit civilization. I was kind of glad to not have to brave that. D’s office was also closed, so we had breakfast together, watched the news, and I drifted back off to sleep. The sun came out, the temperature went up, and a lot of the ice on the roads was probably melted off by noon.
We still have a little ice out there, but I don’t feel like going out there with my camera for pictures. Here is one from WFAA.
