Weekend (Holiday) Update

By Laurie | December 6, 2008

I worked almost a 10 hour shift at my job today, and I am exhausted. It doesn’t happen often, so I don’t mind all that much. I sure didn’t feel like getting up when the alarm rang at 6:00 AM though.

We’ve been lazy and haven’t put our Christmas stuff up yet. Are we the only ones? I’m not feeling all that festive anyway, but I think today is the day (or tonight is the night) to get it done. We’ve gotten two Christmas cards already (thanks Kat and Corrin!) that are already placed on the mantle with care.

We’ve also got some Christmas shopping left to do… quite a bit actually. I’ll be having surgery the week before Christmas (bye-bye tonsils), and then am going to hide out at an undisclosed location (a deep, dark hole away from human contact) recovering until the new year. I hear that it is pretty painful, so I just might be having mashed potatoes for Christmas dinner. Have you known anyone who has had theirs removed as an adult? If so, give the dirt. I want all the details, good or bad. I’ve read plenty online, but I’d love to hear more personal experiences.

On the shopping front, I got self-gifted an awesome pair of Kate Spade slipper boots that I will be living in the rest of the winter. I love love love them. I have been pricing laptops too for about a month, but I don’t think that’s in the cards right now. We have also been shopping for a new TV for months and are waiting for a fabulous deal ($1000 or less) to come around. Point me in the direction if you know of any good place for those. We’re thinking 46″, LCD, 1080p. Here’s the Sony Bravia we’ve been looking at. If Santa can’t bring it, maybe he can put it on sale? A girl can wish.

Dave took me to see the Christmas Lights in Frisco Square last night. They are a lot of fun if you are local. They are even bringing in a snow machine which I am sure will be a lot of fun for kids. Also last week the Trykoski’s opened up their home (or the outside of it anyway) for their annual synchronized Christmas light display. We went last year and unloaded over 200 cans of food that they were collecting for the Frisco Food Bank. You can watch their Christmas light display on YouTube, but if you can make it in person it is awesome. Of course traffic is horrible the week of Christmas and you will likely wait an hour (or more), but it’s worth it.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

  2. I finally put the last bin away and the last ornament on the tree, this morning. Now my husband is attempting to string some lights outside, but he’s not making much progress!

  4. Brittany– I hope you start getting into the spirit too. I think you’re right… once everything is up it will be better. Plus hubby said he bought some gifts to put under the tree, so I’m sure that will make things exciting too.

  5. I’m sure it looks fabulous, Lynne! We’re not doing much on the outside of the house, so I had a lot less to do.

  7. I love the lights at this house! They were on our local news station the other night!!! =)

Okay on your tonsils…you will be FINE!!! I promise!!! I had mine out a few years back!!!! I craved sonic ice…which ice is good to keep the swelling down! Also, the day after I wanted scramble eggs with ketchup! Weird…I don’t normally eat that!?!?! lol I also wanted hot and sour soup from my favorite Asian restaurant!!!

You will be fine!!! I was only in pain for a few days!!! One thing is…get your meds filled before your surgery! My doctor gave me liquid meds! Make sure you stay on schedule!!! My mom was staying with me and she went to sleep the 2nd night and missed my mid-night meds and it got me alllllllllllllllll off track! That is when the PAIN kicked in!!!!

I promise you will be okay!!!!

Let me know if you have ANY questions!!! I’m here for you!!!!

Did you put your tree up?
We put ours up this past weekend! I’m going to TRY and blog about it today! Also, did you see my Canton post? It’s up!

    HAPPY MONDAY!!!!

  8. Hi Laurie,

Oh no week before christmas with tonsils :( I dont think you will be eating any dinner mate, never mind just mash

Im still really sore with mine still(1 week later) I stocked up on icecream, soup and yoghurt before the opp but i couldnt eat after cause made me sick.

I can only eat stuff i really fancy. Mostly manage a soft food microwave meal and yoghurt drinks to ease my throat.

Thats all i can tell you so far, the opp is fine. Its just a sore lumpy throat after and ear ache. I wish i could be more positive sorry.

The advice i will give you though is try not to talk first few days, little or nothing cause it hurts. i had to write messages alot lol

Fingers crossed be worth it in end. Just try and stay positive :)

Thanks for stopping by my place. Hope to see u again, and good luck

  9. Jeannie- thanks for the info! I will make sure to take my meds on schedule. I did a lot of reading on some medical message boards and a lot of people said to set an alarm so that you do not miss a dose. I’ll definitely be on that, and will for sure be e-mailing you that week! *hugs* I’ll be over soon to see your Canton post!

  10. Thanks for coming by, Tina! I feel a little less nervous now, but I know it’s not going to be a lot of fun. I hope to get some rest, and I will probably be okay with not eating or sticking with ice the first few days. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll be back to your blog to check on you. Keep me updated!

  11. Those lights look beautiful!

Our town also has a holiday light display but it seems to be a bit more for the kids. I think we have waaaay too many colored lights and not enough simple, white lights.

  13. Georgie– we still haven’t been motivated. I’m hoping that happens this week. Christmas is right around the corner and if we don’t get it all up soon, it will be time to take it all down again. haha
