Should you shop pink this October?

Everything turns a shade of pink in October. You can’t walk into a store without seeing products lining the shelves in the name of supporting breast cancer awareness and promising a portion of the sale goes to one of the many worthy breast cancer charities. Do all companies have a heart of gold? The answer is no. A lot are actually taking advantage of the situation.
If you pay $50 for an item that a pink ribbon was slapped upon, but the company only gives $1 to charity… they are making a profit more so than the charity. yes, the charity will gain $1 they didn’t have before, but I think it really takes away from companies or charities who are really trying to do something good and find a cure… not a cure for earning more money. So should you Shop Pink? |
I came across a really great article in the Star Tribune called “Which pink products really help fight breast cancer?” It does an excellent job of explaining the situation. My suggestion is to educate yourself, and put your money where you believe it will do the most good and make you feel the best.
For me, it’s the 3-Day and Susan G. Komen. I’d appreciate your support in my walk if you are in a giving mood. I’ve made it my goal and passion this year to raise as much money as I can with the help of my friends.

Hey! Thanks for the great advice. It’s something that’s so obvious but sometimes all these campaigns blind you with their bling that you forget that there are still sharks out there who only pretend to be part of the solution!
Posted by: fragileheartHi Lori! I tried to comment back on your blog, but it wouldn’t take the CAPTCHA code. Thanks for dropping by! We just celebrated our anniversary a few days after yours! Keep in touch and we can meet up at the 3-Day!

Posted by: LaurieHey that a great advice. I am sure this will help thousands of people out there if it is really true that pink color fights against breast cancer. Great job
Posted by: JackJ sent me over to your place and she sent you to mine! Thanks for commenting on my Mammogram post. I think just looking at what was involved in the screening and actually seeing the machine (via the internet) made the whole experience easy. I knew what to expect.
Enjoy the walk and bravo for doing something!!

Posted by: KristinYeah, I think if it was something that I was going to buy anyway, like a bag of M&Ms or a bottle of water, it’s worth buying the pink ones. However, if you’re buying something because it’s pink, better off giving the whole amount to someone worthy (I guess that’s pretty much what the article said!).
