Fireworks (better late than never)

By Laurie | July 15, 2008

I never really talked much about the 4th. We had a fun first year in Frisco at the 2008 Freedom Fest. We got to see new artist Freddy perform many of the songs from his new album and are convinced that he loves us and thinks that we are all awesome. If we didn’t already know, he certainly told us too many times to count in between each song. I know who he is because I listen to KISS and Kidd Kraddick in the Morning. He was dropped from his record label, and they are trying to give him another chance to breakout on his own.

My only advice is if you are an up and coming artist, you might not want to pull the encore trick the big dogs do. All of you fellow concert goers probably know what I’m talking about. The band will come out and say that this is their last song, and after it is over they disappear backstage while the audience applauds, holds up lighters, and screams. Well, after Freddy left the stage, there wasn’t a chorus of clapping. There was just silence as everyone was gearing up for the fireworks. Then a few minutes later he comes back out and asks if everyone wants to hear another song. No, actually we want to see fireworks now. Thanks. I felt a little bad for him, but I’m sure he is learning a lot as he goes along. He has been getting a lot of opportunities to open for big name bands and music tours.

The main attraction, the fireworks, were amazing. We usually watch the ones in Lewisville parked on the side of the road, so it was nice to be in a stadium with other people. They played an interesting array of music behind them. I would have expected more patriotic themes. I mean, I am a big Rob Thomas fan, but I’m not so sure How Far We’ve Come and it’s chorus of “I believe the World is Coming to an End,” is the proper soundtrack. Ah well.

Here are a few pictures from the night. Unfortunately none of them really came out very well. The finale was awesome I have to say. I really miss being a kid. I have fond memories of playing with sparklers at my Grandma’s house, and my dad’s homemade fireworks displays in California. Those were the days.

Please excuse my scary eyebrow– it has since been taken care of.
