Memorial Day at the Races

I’ve been a little removed from blogging lately. I don’t know what it is. I guess I’ve just been too busy with work, training, or sleeping. Today I’m playing catch up with a few things that have been going on.
On Memorial Day David and I went to Lone Star Park for the day with my parents. I used to go with them all the time, but it’s probably been over a year (last Memorial day maybe?) since we all went together. I think D and I went once on our own since then too. We broke about even, I think. In our first race there was a horse called Peanut Buddy. We had to bet on him because that was my dear sweet Peanut’s nickname. He ended up winning! Also, in the 7th Race their was a horse named Brownie Points. We also had to bet on that one. Guess what? He also won! How funny is it that in one day both of my dog’s would be represented in the way of horses? Very strange. I think it was a sign.
There was also a drawing that day for a chance to win a Harley Davidson. There were so many people there, and only 10 people got a key that might start the motorcycle. I was joking with my mom when they were announcing the alternates that they weren’t calling my name, and then all of a sudden we heard, “Number 17: Laurie Brosius from Frisco, TX”. We both screamed. It was pretty funny considering there was no way that 27 people called before me wouldn’t show up, but it was still fun to be called and have my name up on the JumboTron.
It was hot, but luckily we usually get counter seats these days. We stayed in the cool and ate the yummy buffet and broke about even. I think my parents were ahead in the end because one of their long shots came in the money in the 7th race. Good thing I asked to stay to bet on Brownie.

I certainly still have the “Kisner Luck,” so maybe we should go back July 4th weekend (I think), so that I can win the car!

Looks like fun. Our day at the races got rained out this weekend, and I can’t wait to go back. Did you bet on thoroughbred or harness races?
Posted by: corrin on June 8th, 2008 at 6:39 pmThey don’t do harness racing at Lone Star. Just thoroughbred and telecasts of other tracks across the country. I’m sorry you got rained out this weekend. You guys are becoming quite the track couple! Too bad D doesn’t enjoy it so much.
