Dallas Mother throws two children off bridge, jumps
By Laurie | March 12, 2008
THIS is what is wrong with the world. HOW can a mother throw her two small children off of a bridge during rush hour? I am so angry. I heard about it this morning around 7:00 AM and I’m still pissed.
From FOX4:
A woman threw her two young children from a freeway overpass during Wednesday’s morning rush before leaping off, police said. All three survived the 22-foot fall into traffic.
Khandi Leechell Busby, 27, was in stable condition at Baylor Hospital while her sons, ages 8 and 6, were also listed in stable condition at Children’s Medical Center, Lt. C.L. Williams said.
Williams said he did not know the extent of the injuries, but said they were not likely life threatening.
“Our fingers are crossed that they will survive this horrific event,” he said.
There were several witnesses to the 6:30 a.m. incident, some of whom said the children had struggled against Busby, but were overpowered, according to Williams.
The incident began at a gas station at which Busby, her children and their grandfather had stopped, Williams said.
While the man attended to the vehicle, Busby took the children from the vehicle and brought them to the overpass, he said.
The grandfather saw what was happening, but could not get to Busby in time to stop her, Williams said.
It was not clear if Busby had a history of mental problems or if she was taking medications, he said.
The woman has a criminal history that includes aggravated robbery and burglary, but nothing that would hint at Wednesday’s tragedy, Williams said.
“The why remains a mystery to us,” Williams said.
He also said Busby had a history with Child Protective Services in which the agency conducted some minor interventions.
Police are considering charging Busby with two counts of attempted capital murder, Williams said.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard it this morning. I’m just amazed…
Posted by: Vader's MomVader’s Mom- Are you near Dallas too? It was horrible, huh? Amazing that they all lived too. I can’t imagine what it is going to be like growing up for those two little boys.
Posted by: LaurieHas enybody ever heard any follow-up to this? With yesterday’s story about the car salesman either falling or being pushed from a moving pick-up, I remembered this case. I wonder how it turned out. Are the kids OK? Is the mother in jail? A mental hospital? Just wondering…
