Out of Pocket

By Laurie | November 10, 2007

I am a little bit miffed because mid-move a month ago, someone decided to rear-end me on George Bush. It was definitely the last thing I needed because I was already stressing about a million other things. I have always loved my insurance company (Progressive), and so when they told me that I should take it to their claims center to be fixed immediately… I didn’t hesitate.

I really regret that now. Obviously since I was slammed into from behind it’s a no brainer that it was the other driver’s fault. Since they told me to go in and get it fixed right away, not only am I out my deductable… I also ended up paying $26/day (for four days) to rent a car. When all was said and done I was out about $400. They assured me that I would get it all back. Yesterday I got a letter in the mail saying that they might not be able to recover the funds from the other company (he was driving a company car), but if not I will only owe the deductable (which I already paid). Gee, thanks. The damage really wasn’t all that bad. I could really use the money right now, and I always could have gotten it fixed later. I am so furious that they talked me into fixing it before the claim was settled, and I am even more mad at myself for being so stupid. *sigh*
