House Chit-Chat

By Laurie | October 4, 2007

We went to the house today to meet with the builder for the final walk through. Did I mention that the light that will be hanging over the table in the kitchen was installed in the middle of the room? That means when we get a table in there it will be blocking the door if we center it under the light. I wish we had noticed it before we had closed on the house because now they cannot and will not fix it. He did say that he will go back and look at the building plans, and if it is significantly misplaced they will take care of it. I’m not sure that is going to be the case, but lease keep your fingers crossed! I have the feeling we’re going to have to change out the fixture, or get a hook to pull it over which is going to look plain silly.

I thought it was funny that the woman that assisted us during closing was so amazed with our home insurance rate. Of course we were too. We had heard from friends and family that it would be pricey, but we were very happy with our quote. Interested in getting your own insurance quotes online? Check out the link and see if you can find a lower rate than your have currently for your home. We are glad we have it, because I know our area has some crazy storms and I want to be sure to be protected in case there is damage.

  1. If they don’t move the light for you (which I hope they do) you might consider placing a hood in the ceiling and then moving the light over that way, sort of like a swag light where you hook the chain the light is hanging from onto the hook. If it looks odd, you might be able to buy a longer chain for it. Hope that makes some sort of sense! :-D

  2. Thanks Lynne! That does make sense! Luckily when they looked at the building plans, it stated that the light should be no more than 2 feet from the wall. It was 6 feet. So on Tuesday three sets of workmen are coming out to move it, fix the drywall, and paint. What an ordeal!
