Walk-Through Update

By Laurie | September 19, 2007

The walk-through went well yesterday. There were only a few minor issues with the paint, and the slab in the backyard had a pretty large hole. All the appliances seemed to work. I think we have to go back and sign off one more time after they fix those things, then we are good to go as far as signing the paperwork and closing the deal goes. Tuesday we will officially be homeowners!

We took my parents with us for support and an extra set of eyes, and then took them to lunch. After that they went home, and we hit the furniture stores. Sadly we were not impressed with much. Rooms to Go was having a big $699 sale, but we didn’t like any of the pieces they had to offer. Everything seemed really cheap. Even Ashley was a big disappointment. Dave is anti IKEA, and I know all that stuff is pretty cheap looking too.

I have my heart set on a table from Crate & Barrel, but am uncertain that I want the table in the kitchen to be “nicer” and more expensive than the one in the formal dining room. It’s a dilemma. None-the-less, I took Dave over to see it. We didn’t buy anything, but I came home and looked at the table again online. It was much cheaper on their website. We registered there for our wedding, and they now offer a Housewarming Registry. Is it bad that I went ahead and registered? It’s kind of a mental list for myself, but if people want to buy us gifts… I would love giftcards from there. I wanted to throw an Open House when we are all moved in to let people come by and check the place out and visit with us, but absolutely didn’t want people to feel obligated to bring gifts so I wasn’t planning on letting anyone do an official Housewarming party. We have already gotten quite a few hosting offers from friends that I have politely declined. I had a hard time letting anyone throw me a bridal shower too, but somehow I ended up with two and still *hate* the idea.  I think it’s fabulous for other people, and I actually love attending them.  I just don’t like being the center of attention, nor do I want to appear to be begging for presents.  I feel like I am opening that can of worms now. But eh.

The real reason I did it is because when our wedding was over, they sent a coupon for 25% (I think) off of any unpurchased items from the registry. If I can get the table and chairs I want on sale plus the discount, I would be one happy girl. Fingers crossed that they do the same thing for housewarming registries too. If not, I am not beneath signing up for another wedding registry just for the discount. Heh.  I also still need a few more sets of my china, and I like their French toile duvet and sheets.  Why not, if I get that coupon?

I know it’s shameless, but here’s the registry link.

One Response to “Walk-Through Update”

  1. We hit all the furniture stores in the area back in April when we moved into our new house. You might try Stacy furniture, they have a HUGE selection. The only thing I didn’t like was it happened that our choice had to be ordered and it took 8 weeks. They do have a lot in stock though so you might find something. There is a huge store in Allen off of 75 and McDermott.
