The Bourne RANT

By Laurie | August 6, 2007

We saw the The Bourne Ultimatum on Saturday night. The previous night while babysitting our nephew (more on that later), we watched the first two Bourne movies on DVD to refresh our memories. This is a good finale to the series I think. It’s supposed to be the last one, and David and I both agree they don’t really have a whole lot to run with on a fouth. All the mysteries were pretty much explained. I have to admit I’m not a big “Action” movie person, but these are really fast-paced and keep my attention. I like Matt Damon. He’s fun to watch… really. I am just distracted by the beauty mark on his face. Am I the only one?

We usually go to the movies on Friday Night. It’s really never as crowded as Saturday night, as we discovered once again this weekend. We are always early too. We like to sit in the seats in front of the metal bar so that we can put our feet up, and also because nobody can sit in front of you and block your view. I also usually put my purse in the seat next to me in the hopes that nobody will come sit in it.

I really hate feeling cramped, and having to sit practically “cheek to cheek” with a stranger is not my idea of fun. When Transformers came out, we were the first people to enter the theater followed by another couple. I kid you not, that other couple sat in the seats directly next to me. There were hundreds of other seats to choose from. What’s wrong with giving the people next to you a little elbow room?

For Bourne we managed to keep the seats next to us free by putting our stuff in them and occasionally saying they were taken. I know, it’s bad. But come on– we make it a point to get there early to pick out the seats we want. There is nothing more annoying than the couple that comes in two minutes before the movie starts and expects you to move over in order to create two seats just so that they can sit on top of you. This happened to us on Saturday, and they even involved the movie theater’s employee. I think it’s wrong to ask someone else to move– especially if there are plenty of other seats available somewhere else. I know we didn’t buy the seats next to us, but still. Why should I have to move?

In addition, I don’t want to listen to your conversation during the movie, nor do I want to smell your stinky hotdog. If you’re rude enough to show up right before the movie starts, do you really need to talk through the first 15 minutes? Do you have to make noise with your food containers?

So… to that other couple in theater 16 of the AMC Grapevine Mills– PLEASE– in the future, kindly make sure you arrive in plenty of time to select the seats YOU want without making everyone else accomodate you. Also, those hotdogs are really not good for you. Beware of the mold. Seriously.

  1. I watched the 1st one to refresh my memory the other night and still need to watch the 2nd one. Did you like the 3rd one as well as the 1st two?

  2. I did like it just about as much as the first two. They definitely go together, and this last one finishes up the story. :)

  3. I can’t stand being crowded in a movie theater either. I was at a movie with a friend once and we were the only people in the theater until these two cows came in and sat directly behind us (in the empty theater) and proceeded to yap the entire time. I gave them a few stern looks but no change. They kept cramming their mouths and saying stupidest things during the movie. That is why I try and go to a matinĂ©e and never when there is a large crowd.

  4. I don’t care what’s on Matt Damon’s face, I have the biggest freaking girlie crush on him EVER. Since this movie came out, he is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly, he is on the cover of GQ magazine, he is inside TV Guide, and he is HOT HOT HOTTTTT.

Ahem. What were we talking about? Oh, right, movies. I’ll admit it, I’m a whisperer at movies. I know! I can’t help it! But I also like to go to matinees, or Saturday at 10:30 a.m., there is never a crowd.
